Gümüşler Monastery

Gümüşler Monastery is the largest and best-preserved rock-cut monastery in the Niğde region and one of the finest Byzantine monastic complexes in Cappadocia. Dating from the 8th–12th centuries, the monastery is famous for its remarkably preserved frescoes and its unique "Smiling Virgin Mary" depiction, one of the most distinctive icons in Byzantine art.
