Cappadocia Museum Entrance Fees 2026

# Cappadocia Museum Entrance Fees 2026: Official Ticket Prices

Cappadocia contains far more than scenic valleys and hot-air balloon viewpoints. The region includes open-air museums, rock-cut churches, underground cities, monasteries and archaeological sites spread across Nevşehir, Aksaray, Kayseri and Niğde.

This guide lists the official 2026 entrance fees published by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The euro prices shown below apply to foreign visitors. Turkish citizens can enter most listed sites with a valid Müzekart, subject to the individual rules of each attraction.

Entrance fees and site conditions may change, so check the latest information before travelling. The prices below were checked in July 2026.

Main Cappadocia Museum and Site Prices

Göreme Open-Air Museum

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €20

Göreme Open-Air Museum is one of Cappadocia’s most important historical attractions. The complex contains rock-cut monasteries, chapels and churches decorated with Byzantine frescoes.

The standard entrance ticket does not include the Dark Church. Visitors who want to enter it must purchase an additional ticket.

Göreme Open-Air Museum is normally the most expensive individual museum ticket in central Cappadocia, but it is also one of the most important sites for understanding the region’s religious and monastic history. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}

Dark Church

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €6

The Dark Church is located inside Göreme Open-Air Museum but requires a separate ticket.

Its frescoes are among the best preserved in the museum because the church received very little natural light. Müzekart does not provide completely free entry; holders pay a discounted additional fee of 100 TL according to the official list.

Derinkuyu Underground City

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €13

Derinkuyu is known for its deep, vertical structure, narrow connecting tunnels and multiple underground levels. It is a good choice for visitors seeking a more intense and adventurous underground-city experience.

The site is included in many Green Tour routes, although the exact underground city visited depends on the tour programme.

Kaymaklı Underground City

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €13

Kaymaklı has the same official entrance price as Derinkuyu.

Its structure spreads across a wider and more horizontal area, making the visitor route feel easier to follow. Kaymaklı is generally quieter and is our preferred choice for families, first-time visitors and travellers who want a slightly more comfortable underground-city experience.

Because Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı have the same ticket price and offer a broadly similar historical experience, most visitors only need to choose one. See our Derinkuyu vs Kaymaklı Underground City comparison before deciding.

Zelve Open-Air Museum and Paşabağ

Combined foreign visitor ticket: €12

Zelve Open-Air Museum and Paşabağ are visited with one combined ticket. The same ticket provides access to both archaeological areas.

Paşabağ is known for some of Cappadocia’s most distinctive mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys, while Zelve contains rock-cut dwellings, religious spaces and a former cave settlement spread across several valleys.

Because both attractions are included in one ticket, they work well as part of the same half-day route. The official list notes that the Balıklı and Üzümlü churches are currently closed.

El Nazar Church

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €3

El Nazar Church is a small rock-cut church near Göreme. It is less visited than the main open-air museum and can be a useful stop for travellers interested in frescoes without the larger crowds.

St. Jean Church in Gülşehir

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €3

St. Jean Church is located in Gülşehir and contains rock-cut spaces and painted religious scenes. It is a useful addition for travellers exploring northern Cappadocia beyond the standard Göreme route.

Mazı Underground City

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €3

Mazı is a quieter alternative to Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı. It receives fewer organised groups and offers a more local underground-city experience.

Its lower ticket price makes it an attractive option for travellers who have their own transport or are following a customised route.

Özkonak Underground City

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €6 — currently closed

Özkonak is listed with a €6 foreign visitor fee, but the official price list currently marks the site as closed.

Do not build a daily itinerary around Özkonak without checking its latest opening status.

Free Attractions in Nevşehir

Several government-operated historical sites in the wider Cappadocia region currently have free admission.

Açıksaray Open-Air Museum

Entrance fee: Free

Açıksaray is located near Gülşehir. It contains rock-cut chambers, unusual façades and monastic structures spread across an open archaeological landscape.

It is far quieter than Göreme Open-Air Museum and works well for visitors with a rental car or private tour.

Tatlarin Underground City

Entrance fee: Free

Tatlarin is another lesser-known underground settlement. Its distance from central Göreme means it receives relatively few visitors.

Opening access and the available visitor sections should be checked before travelling.

Sobesos Archaeological Site

Entrance fee: Free

Sobesos contains the remains of a Roman settlement, including mosaic floors and architectural remains. It can be combined with a route toward Soğanlı, Mustafapaşa or southern Cappadocia.

Hacıbektaş Museums

The following sites are currently listed as free:

  • Hacıbektaş Archaeology and Ethnography Museum
  • Hacıbektaş Atatürk House Museum
  • Hacıbektaş Museum

These sites are located outside central Cappadocia and are primarily relevant to travellers interested in Hacı Bektaş Veli, Anatolian religious history and regional culture.

Ihlara Valley and Aksaray Entrance Fees

Ihlara Valley

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €15

Ihlara Valley is one of the most expensive individual historical attractions in the wider Cappadocia region.

The site combines a deep canyon, riverside walking trails and rock-cut churches. A full visit normally requires more time than an open-air museum because the experience includes hiking as well as historical sightseeing.

Ihlara Valley is commonly included in Green Tour programmes together with an underground city and viewpoints in southern Cappadocia.

Manastır Valley

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €4

Manastır Valley, near Güzelyurt, contains rock-cut churches and monastic spaces. It is quieter than Ihlara Valley and is better suited to travellers exploring the Aksaray side of Cappadocia independently.

Aziz Mercurius Underground City

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €3

This lesser-known underground city is located in the Aksaray area and offers an inexpensive alternative to the more famous Nevşehir underground cities.

Saratlı Kırkgöz Underground City

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €3

Saratlı Kırkgöz is another affordable underground-city option in Aksaray. It is often used as an alternative stop on routes entering Cappadocia from the west.

Aşıklı Höyük

Entrance fee: Free

Aşıklı Höyük is an important prehistoric settlement near the Ihlara region. It is particularly valuable for visitors interested in early settled life and archaeology rather than only Cappadocia’s Byzantine and cave heritage.

Soğanlı and Kayseri Museum Prices

Soğanlı Archaeological Site

Entrance fee: Free

Soğanlı Valley is currently listed as free to enter.

The area contains rock-cut churches, village landscapes, walking routes and distinctive geological formations. Soğanlı can also be visited as part of a southern Cappadocia route or combined with a Soğanlı Valley hot-air balloon flight.

Kayseri Archaeology Museum

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €4

The Kayseri Archaeology Museum presents finds from the wider Kayseri region, including material connected with Kültepe and ancient Anatolian trade.

Güpgüpoğlu Mansion Ethnography Museum

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €3

This traditional mansion displays regional domestic culture, architecture and ethnographic collections.

Kültepe Archaeological Site

Entrance fee: Free

Kültepe was one of Anatolia’s major ancient commercial centres. It is particularly important for understanding the Assyrian trade colonies and early written records in Anatolia.

Mimar Sinan House Museum

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €5 — currently closed

The official list currently marks the museum as closed. Confirm its status before adding it to a Kayseri itinerary.

Niğde and Southern Cappadocia Prices

Gümüşler Monastery and Underground City

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €3

Gümüşler Monastery is one of the strongest-value historical attractions in the wider Cappadocia region. It combines a rock-cut monastery, church frescoes and underground spaces in a single visit.

It is considerably farther from Göreme than the main Nevşehir attractions, so it is most suitable for travellers exploring Niğde or following an extended regional itinerary.

Andaval Archaeological Site

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €3

Andaval is a smaller historical site near Niğde. It is primarily relevant to travellers already visiting the southern part of the region.

Niğde Museum

Foreign visitor entrance fee: €3 — currently closed

Although an official ticket price is listed, Niğde Museum is currently marked as closed.

Is Müzekart Valid in Cappadocia?

Müzekart is valid at most museums and archaeological sites listed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

However, there are important exceptions. The Dark Church inside Göreme Open-Air Museum is not fully included in the standard Müzekart entry and requires an additional discounted payment.

Foreign travellers should also distinguish between the Turkish Müzekart system and museum passes sold specifically for international visitors. Eligibility, validity periods and included attractions may differ.

Check the current pass conditions before buying, particularly when your itinerary includes only one or two paid museums.

Is a Cappadocia Museum Pass Worth Buying?

The answer depends on your itinerary.

A museum pass may offer good value when your programme includes several major paid attractions, such as:

  • Göreme Open-Air Museum
  • Derinkuyu or Kaymaklı Underground City
  • Zelve and Paşabağ
  • Ihlara Valley
  • Additional churches or archaeological sites

Buying individual tickets may be more practical when you plan to visit only one underground city and one open-air museum.

The Dark Church requires an additional ticket even when using a museum card or pass, so include this cost separately when calculating the total.

Approximate Ticket Budget for a Classic Cappadocia Route

A traveller purchasing separate foreign visitor tickets could pay:

  • Göreme Open-Air Museum: €20
  • Dark Church: €6
  • Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu Underground City: €13
  • Zelve and Paşabağ combined ticket: €12
  • Ihlara Valley: €15

Visiting all five would create a total official entrance cost of €66 per person.

This amount does not include transportation, guiding, food or privately operated attractions.

Travellers joining a guided tour should always check whether museum tickets are included. Some Cappadocia Green Tours and Red tours private tours include entrances, while lower-priced packages may require guests to pay at each site.

Which Paid Sites Are Most Worth Visiting?

For a first Cappadocia trip, we would prioritise:

1. Göreme Open-Air Museum for rock-cut churches and frescoes.
2. Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu for the underground-city experience.
3. Zelve and Paşabağ for cave settlements and classic fairy chimneys.
4. Ihlara Valley when your itinerary includes southern Cappadocia and hiking.

You do not need to visit every underground city or every open-air museum. Selecting one strong example from each category usually creates a more balanced itinerary.

Important Price and Opening Notes

  • Prices shown are official foreign visitor fees published in euros.
  • Turkish citizens can use Müzekart at most paid sites.
  • Entrance prices may change without long advance notice.
  • Dark Church requires a separate ticket.
  • Zelve and Paşabağ share one combined ticket.
  • Several museums or sites may be temporarily closed.
  • Opening hours can change seasonally.
  • Private attractions and municipality-operated locations may follow different pricing systems.

Always check the official status shortly before your visit, especially when travelling specifically to see a lesser-known museum.
